Our History
Camp for All Kids — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization — was officially formed in 1997 to promote and facilitate racial diversity by sending kids from under-served communities to overnight summer camp. But the real story began six years earlier when a Camp Kamaji parent asked what he could do to add diversify to camp. Fast forward nineteen years to today: more than 900 camperships have been awarded and thousands of kids have benefitted from a diverse camp experience.
How We Select Campers
Camp for All Kids partners with three schools that help select kids who have already succeeded at school and will thrive at camp. Families tell us that this experience has opened doors and provided learning opportunities that didn't previously exist. Our campers currently come from elementary and middle schools in St. Louis, Chicago and Cleveland. Recipients may continue to receive an annual campership if they continue to meet their school's academic and citizenship standards.
